Covington police are investigating a shooting Monday night that injured two people.

One victim was airlifted to the Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, the other remains at Baptist-Tipton. Police chief Larry Lindsey said the victims are not cooperating with the investigation but he believes they were not shot here.

“They said they’d been shot at a store between Brownsville and Covington, but we’ve checked with Brownsville and they’re not reporting anything,” he said. “Tipton County isn’t reporting any (shootings) and none of our stores in Covington is reporting a shooting, either. With the way it had to have happened, someone would have heard something. The information they’re giving us isn’t panning out.”

Lindsey said his department is also working with the other surrounding counties as well. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a shooting in Arlington that left one person dead and another injured.

Anyone with information about the shooting victims from Covington is asked to contact Covington Police at 901-476-1261.
