Covington and Brighton high schools will both be well-represented at the Class A-AA state cross country meet, which will be held Friday and Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville.

Both the girls and boys cross country teams from Covington are headed to state following an impressive showing at the regional meet at Shelby Farms last week.

Leading the girls’ team was Kinlee Carver, who clinched the Regional runner-up spot with an exceptional time of 24:01. Akeela’H Young finished a commendable overall third. Macey Dawson, Lauren Middlebrooks and Reese Reinhardt rounded out the runners, with all recording personal best times today. Ciara Russell completes the CHS roster.

Dalton Travis led the boys with a fourth-place overall finish. The collective efforts of Konner Bradshaw, Cameron Hall, Trey Narcisse, Conner Leland, Drake Simpson and Elijah Nason secured the team’s qualification for the state championships.

The Brighton girls qualified as a team. Competing will be Britt Ray, Jade Luttrell-Davis, Diana Gobellan, Zikiya Tipton, Presley Smith, Camilla Garcia, Genevieve Maclin and Precious Dennisdan. Braxton Hughes qualified for the boys’ race as an individual.
