Fire Chief Henry Posey has announced his retirement after eight years as the Town of Atoka’s first fire chief.

Hired in October 2014, Posey was tasked with starting the new fire department and building its team from the ground up.

Since the department’s inception it became the first fire department in Tipton County to be fully Advanced Life Support (ALS) 24 hours a day, lowered the town’s ISO insurance rating from a Class 5 to a Class 3, grown to two fire stations with 16 full-time personnel, and will soon see delivery of its first aerial ladder quint fire truck next spring.

Posey spent 35 years with Memphis Fire Department, retiring as a division chief in 2013, before being named Atoka’s chief.

Posey’s last day is set for Aug. 5.

The Town of Atoka has posted the vacancy, which will close at 3 p.m. on July 8.
