Mt. Carmel News: Working on naming the new book

By The Leader on August 12, 2019

Well, I’m back on the computer, thanks to Sandstorm! But now my laptop has been at 99 percent for a week, updating, so now I’ll have to get it down there. If you Google that, you’ll see that lots of folks have devices that have been updating at 99 percent for days. What’s up with that?!!

We had really high wind Friday morning – blowing the shingles up on the corner of the new room! We got about another quarter inch of rain mid-week and almost an inch Friday and Saturday. We were glad to see the sun out this morning (Sunday), but I think several days of rain are forecasted this week. And temperatures are supposed to be up and down!

I made a big pot of chicken tortilla soup and took some to LaVerne Baxter and Billy Chapman, both home from the hospital, and some to Catherine McCalla too. I didn’t visit her Thursday with Caroline because Caroline had a little fever, so I just picked up her and took her home to her daddy.

James and I just came from church and having lunch with Clint, Courtney and Caroline. We find out in March if she’s having a little sister or brother! Praying for a brother!

I’ve been really working on the ghost story book the last few days. For those of you not on Facebook, I’m combining the book with a cookbook! I took suggestions for a name and got 56! Like “Ghosts and Goulash,” “Food and Phantoms” and  “Crepes and Creaky Doors.” It’s going to be a job deciding on one! I’m prefacing each chapter of recipes with names submitted and who suggested them. This is fun!

On our prayer list at the Covington Church of Christ are Billy Chapman and LaVerne Baxter, Jimmy Weir, Joyce and Tina Whaley, Vicky Mayfield, Houston Hall and so many friends and relatives of our members, like Jackson Hughey, and all of our servicemen and women.

Prayers go out for all those affected by the shooting in Florida. I am still reeling from the one in Kentucky, which was in my family’s county. So sad . . .

Happy birthday this week goes to Maddon Wall on Feb. 13, to Andrea Newman on the 18th and to Cora Anderson on the 19th!

Happy birthday at Clopton United Methodist Church to Steve Davis on Feb. 22, to Diana McAlpin on the 23rd and to Gaylon Beasley on the 24th!

Pick up a label for a can or jar and following the daily suggestions for the 35th Anniversary of the Memphis Conference Lenten Hunger Offerings. Donations will be received on Easter Sunday, April 1.

And don’t forget old eyeglasses for Project 20/20 and items for Austin Peay backpacks.

This week’s Farmer’s Almanac Quote: ‘Make hiccups go away by chewing and swallowing a spoonful of peanut butter”.

I hope everyone had a good Valentine’s Day and ate some chocolate! I did!

Until next week . . .
