He leaves his wife, Edna Shelley Nelms; daughter Donna Nelms McBroom of Mason; son Michael (Buffie) Nelms of Brighton; sisters Mary Randolph and Linda Umstead; grandchildren, Karagan (Cody) Nelms Smith, Carson Nelms and Cassie McBroom and a great-granddaughter, Amelia Joy.

A memorial service was held 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 3, at Maley-Yarbrough Funeral Home. The family received friends two hours prior to the service.
