Monday was not a great night for pitchers when Brighton and Munford squared off in Munford for the final regular season district game of the season.

Brighton and Munford combined for 24 hits, including seven for extra bases. In the end Brighton had more firepower and pulled out a 10-6 win.

The game ended up not meaning much as far as the district standings. Brighton will be the third seed in the four-team District 13-AAA tournament, which begins Friday in Savannah. Munford will be seeded fourth. With the top two teams advancing to the region, both teams will have to pull an upset or two to keep their seasons alive. Hardin County is the top seed and Dyer County is second.

Munford led Brighton 4-2 Monday night before Brighton scored five runs in top of the fifth and three in the sixth to take control of the game.

Haley Simpson drove in two runs and Jade Howard and Lauryn Maher each drove in one during Brighton’s game-changing fifth inning. The other run scored on an error.

Jasmine Fayne got Munford off to a great start in the bottom of the first. After Mattie Rittinger and Kayla Reed singled, Fayne hit a bomb over the centerfield fence to give her team a 3-0 lead.

Brighton’s Anna Click hit a two-run double in the top of the second to cut the lead to 3-2. An RBI-single from Reed in the bottom of the inning made the score 4-2.

Fayne led Munford’s offense with four RBIs. Reed and Riley Wade each had two hits and Riley Baskin doubled.

Reed took the loss in the circle. She allowed nine hits and seven runs, only three of which were earned.

Makayla Stinnett settled down after a rough start to get the win for Brighton. She allowed nine hits and five earned runs in a complete-game effort.

Howard had two doubles and two RBIs and Kelsey Camp, Maher, Caylee Comer, Timily David and Simpson each had two hits. Brighton had five doubles in the game.
