Voter turnout in Tipton County this year was 70.5 – the highest ever

Among the headlines this election was its historic voter turnout. During early voting, a record 21,929 people cast their ballots. A total of 27,487 of Tipton’s 38,968 active voters cast ballots in the November 2020 election. Brighton and Munford elect their first Black aldermen

On Tuesday, the Town of Brighton and the City of Munford elected the first Black aldermen in each town’s history. In Brighton, former police officer Sonny Foster earned the second-most votes in the race where four aldermen are elected. Rivers, Toliver, Chastain win race for Mason aldermen

Virginia Rivers and two newcomers won their races for aldermen this week. Rivers, who has served Mason for several terms, handily won re-election Tuesday with 29.23 percent of the vote. Giannini and two newcomers win alderman race in Atoka

In Atoka, longtime alderman Brett Giannini and three newcomers won election to the board of mayor and aldermen. Giannini, who was first elected in 2008 and is both a Memphis police officer and a National Guardsman, won 26.97 percent of votes (2,093). Tipton County Administrator of Elections Cindy Pinner said we're well on our way to beat the highest voter turnout ever a dozen years ago.
