Greetings,

Hopefully every child enjoyed a safe and happy Halloween! People today have gotten too far away from what a fun trick-or-treat is. Gone is that beautiful expression and that wise folly of children getting the best of your yard by putting toilet paper on a tree or even going so far as to knock over old Mr. So-and-So’s mailbox, just for the fun of it all. Of course if we got caught doing any of that our hides were given a good tanning from our father.

Now for your news!

On Nov. 19 at 2 p.m., at God’s Grace Gospel Church, members will be celebrating Pastor O. Pearl Andrews 10 years in the ministry with guest speaker for the afternoon, Rev. Marvin Hall of Ripley. Aunts and uncles from our Burton and Sherrill family trees will be featured in a “give them their flowers” while they’re leaving ceremony. The public is invited to attend.

On June 30, 2018 the alums of George R. Ellis elementary and high school of Munford will meet for an old fashioned tailgate picnic at Centennial Park in Millington. It will be free! Just put all of your favorite picnic foods in your truck, camper or auto and wear comfortable attire (no beer). Set up your grills, lean back in your favorite lawn chair, bring your games and enjoy the day with everyone.

You may also post the year that you attended George R. Ellis on or around your campsite. We’ll be behind the YMCA in Millington.

For more information, contact Jessie Cook at 901-649-3940.

Our prayers are with the families of Calvin Brent, Billy Grandberry and Patricia Robinson, who passed away last week in Covington.

Our regular prayer list includes Ruth Alston, Jessie Cook, Lela Mason, Pink Sherrill Jr., Terrance “T” Sherrill, Rudolph Boykins, Mary Burton, Mary Ballard, Christine Armstrong, Connie Brown, Jessie Lawson, Flossie Woods, Amanda Grey, Doris Deberry, Fletcher Dickerson Sr., Judy Sherfield, Beaulah Wakefield, Norma Baker Lyte and family, Rhonda Heaston McLin, Flora Alston, Theron Alston and JaCinta Jones.

This is all for now. Remember, “The person who makes another laugh is blessed.”

Until next time.
