Firefighters battling large blaze in Brighton

By Echo Day on May 4, 2020

Local firefighters are still battling a huge blaze in Brighton.

The fire started just after lunch at the SP National warehouse, which reportedly house mattresses. The building is located on the east side of an area commonly called the “Brighton Curve,” where Old Hwy. 51 and Hwy. 51 meet.

An employee said everyone safely evacuated the building and no injuries have been reported.

Firefighters from Brighton, Atoka, Covington, Munford, Tipton County, Mason, Gilt Edge, Garland and Three Star responded as did crews from Lauderdale and Fayette counties.

Northbound traffic on Hwy. 51 is being re-routed at Oaklawn, with motorists asked to go to Jack Bennett Road.

There is not yet word on how the fire started.

The Leader will update this story once crews are safe and can provide information.
