Meet our staff

Scott Whaley

Publisher

The Leader's publisher since May 2020, Scott serves as the group publisher for eight Magic Valley Publishing papers. He is a native of Henderson and the longtime publisher of The Chester County Independent. Scott and his wife, Lisa, are the proud parents of two daughters and grandparents of two.

Stephanie Daniel

Bookkeeper

Stephanie Daniel is The Leader's bookkeeper, managing both AR/AP, and has been with the company since September 2020. From Drummonds, she is a mother and grandmother.

Jodi Turner

Office Manager

Employed with The Leader since October 2020, Jodi manages classified advertising, legal notices and general office duties. She and her husband, Mike, live in Tipton County and are the parents of two sons.

Echo Day

Managing Editor

Echo started with The Leader in 2007 and currently oversees newsroom operations in addition to covering courts and crime and the cities of Atoka, Covington and Mason. Echo has also been the managing editor of the Collierville Herald. She grew up in Virginia, lives in Covington with her four children and has an A.S. in General Studies from DSCC.

Jeff Ireland

Sports Editor

Jeff has spent most of his 21-year career at The Leader and has also worked with the Memphis Daily News, the Brownsville States-Graphic, Collierville Herald and On the Ball Magazine. He grew up in Raleigh and graduated with a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Memphis. Jeff and his wife, Sara, live in Shelby County and have three children.

Ryan "Carbo" Cousar

Sales

A sixth-generation Tipton Countian, Carbo has been with The Leader since 2017 and sells advertising all over Tipton County and Millington. He is a graduate of Austin Peay State University and lives in Covington with his wife, Gina. They are the proud parents of two and grandparents of one.

Renee Baxter

Graphic Design/Commercial Printing

Renee is a native of Memphis, TN and has resided in Tipton County since 1995. She comes from a long history of Tipton Countians. Renee is a graduate of The University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and is an accomplished Graphic Designer who has worked with World Wide Art Studios, St. Jude, and Wright Medical in Communications and Media roles as well as designer and print production specialist in various other locations across two counties. Along with her role as Graphic Designer at The Leader, she is the present editor and designer of The Hobstar, a national publication for The American Cut Glass Association of America. Renee enjoys spending time with her family and one grandson.
