Meet our staff
A native of Camden, Matthew has been publisher of The Leader since May 2019 and oversees all of the business operations. He is also a veteran of both the Navy and the Army.
Employed with The Leader since 1995, Kathy has worked in various capacities at the paper. She began in the composition room, was a sales representative and is now the office manager, bookkeeper and manages circulation and legal notices. She lives in Covington and is a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Echo DayManaging Editor
Echo started with The Leader in 2007 and currently oversees newsroom operations in addition to covering courts and crime and the cities of Atoka, Covington and Mason. Echo has also been the managing editor of the Collierville Herald. She grew up in Virginia, lives in Covington with her four children and has an A.S. in General Studies from DSCC.
Jeff IrelandSports Editor
Jeff has spent most of his 21-year career at The Leader and has also worked with the Memphis Daily News, the Brownsville States-Graphic, Collierville Herald and On the Ball Magazine. He grew up in Raleigh and graduated with a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Memphis. Jeff and his wife, Sara, live in Munford and have three children.
Andy PoseySales – Covington, Brighton
A Covington native, Andy has sold advertising with The Leader since 2005. He is a proud Vols fan and supporter of local athletic teams. He and his wife, Denise, have three children and six grandchildren.
Ryan "Carbo" CousarSales – South Tipton
A sixth-generation Tipton Countian, Carbo has been with The Leader since 2017 and sells advertising all over Tipton County and Millington. He is a graduate of Austin Peay State University and lives in Covington with his wife, Gina. They are the proud parents of two and grandparents of one.
Renee BaxterGraphic Designer
Renee is a native of Memphis, TN and has resided in Tipton County since 1995. She comes from a long history of Tipton Countians. Renee is a graduate of The University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and is an accomplished Graphic Designer who has worked with World Wide Art Studios, St. Jude, and Wright Medical in Communications and Media roles as well as designer and print production specialist in various other locations across two counties. Along with her role as Graphic Designer at The Leader, she is the present editor and designer of The Hobstar, a national publication for The American Cut Glass Association of America.
