What’s the point of campaign signs in an election like this?

By Jeff Ireland on November 3, 2020

The other day I was driving down Highway 51 when I saw a pickup truck outfitted with majestically large tires flying a Trump for President flag. Well, I thought, that does it. I like his style and I shall vote for Trump. Then I turned off the highway and saw a campaign sign for Joe Biden. Hmm, I thought, that's a nice sign. I'm voting for Biden now. Fifteen minutes later I … [Read more...] about What’s the point of campaign signs in an election like this?

By Echo Day on November 2, 2020

Tipton County Administrator of Elections Cindy Pinner said we're well on our way to beat the highest voter turnout ever a dozen years ago. Through the early voting period, which ended last Thursday, 21,929 people had already cast ballots. Vice Mayor Stephanie Chapman-Washam squares off against former Brighton Mayor Gus Smith

By Jeff Ireland on October 29, 2020

More of the same or more of the old same. In a nutshell, that’s what Brighton voters will need to decide when they head to the polls to elect a new mayor. Stephanie Chapman-Washam, 46, is not the incumbent, but she has been the vice-mayor since 2016 and an alderwoman since being appointed a year before that. She said one of her main accomplishments as a board member was … [Read more...] about Vice Mayor Stephanie Chapman-Washam squares off against former Brighton Mayor Gus Smith

New machines added to Atoka early voting site as turnout is on track to be record-breaking

By Echo Day on October 22, 2020

Early voting totals could surpass the record-high 2008 turnout, administrator of elections Cindy Pinner has suggested. Twelve years ago, 17,554 people voted early and absentee. By 5 p.m. Wednesday, 10,404 ballots had already been cast by mail, in nursing homes and in person. There is still another week to go. “I think this could possibly be the largest turnout we’ve had,” she … [Read more...] about New machines added to Atoka early voting site as turnout is on track to be record-breaking
