Brighton has a new mayor and three new aldermen

Stephanie Chapman-Washam defeated former mayor Gus Smith to be Brighton’s next mayor. Incumbent mayor Sarah Crocker, who was the first woman to be mayor in Brighton, was appointed to the position in 2015 after Jeff Scott left office. Rivers, Toliver, Chastain win race for Mason aldermen

Virginia Rivers and two newcomers won their races for aldermen this week. Rivers, who has served Mason for several terms, handily won re-election Tuesday with 29.23 percent of the vote. Giannini and two newcomers win alderman race in Atoka

In Atoka, longtime alderman Brett Giannini and three newcomers won election to the board of mayor and aldermen. Giannini, who was first elected in 2008 and is both a Memphis police officer and a National Guardsman, won 26.97 percent of votes (2,093). A Burlison man was killed in an overnight accident

The Tennessee Highway Patrol reported Friday morning that 20-year-old Nicholas Kellum of Burlison was killed overnight.
