By Jeff Ireland on March 4, 2021

Spring is always a special time for high school baseball and softball players. The weather is usually getting better and everything seems possible when practice gets started. By Jeff Ireland on January 13, 2021

There's a well-circulated photo taken May 24, 2019 that shows Paige Warmath and her husband, Brad, holding hands and walking off into the sunset after the Covington Charger baseball team won the state title game. On Monday, Paige was surrounded by her husband and other family members when she lost her 22-month battle with brain cancer. She was 45. In both cases, she knew what … [Read more...] about Paige Warmath remembered as great friend, teacher, mother and athlete

By Jeff Ireland on April 3, 2020

[metaslider id=4987] With the 2020 high school baseball season on pause, for now or forever, let's rank the best games of 2019 from the Tipton County area. Carter Davis, another hero from Covington baseball’s state title run, signs with Columbia State

By Jeff Ireland on January 27, 2020

[metaslider id=3750] So many unbelievable things - the Warmath family story, Kyle Ginn's homer and the SportsCenter feature - occurred during Covington's state title run last spring, one crucial story got overlooked. Carter Davis, then a junior, went 7 for 10 with a homer during Covington's first three state tournament games and pitched a complete game in a semifinal that … [Read more...] about Carter Davis, another hero from Covington baseball’s state title run, signs with Columbia State

The top 10 Tipton County sports stories of the decade

By Jeff Ireland on January 3, 2020

[metaslider id=3475] This is the first time I have compiled a top 10 list for a decade and it was quite a challenge. The past 10 years have produced countless special moments, games and seasons, so picking 10 was very difficult. I tried not to let recency bias play a role, but it does seem like most of these stories happened over the past five years. Thanks to everyone who made … [Read more...] about The top 10 Tipton County sports stories of the decade

A look back: Coming together in tragedy

By Echo Day on January 2, 2020

As we begin a new decade we wanted to have a look back at the things that made news – good, bad and inspiring – from 2010-19. It was a decade with unspeakable tragedy, politicians behaving badly, extreme weather and small towns rallying around their own in a way others cannot. This is part five of our series and it's all about the way the community came together in the wake of … [Read more...] about A look back: Coming together in tragedy

By Jeff Ireland on December 30, 2019

[metaslider id=3398] The year that was 2019 had a little bit of everything. There were teams that did way better than everybody, a few that did worse (which will not appear on this list) and one team did what everybody thought was possible, but did it in storybook fashion. Here are the top 10 Tipton County sports stories of 2019: 10. New coach, new pitchers, no problem There … [Read more...] about The top 10 Tipton County sports stories of 2019
