Munford’s Auvic White overcomes adversity to sign football scholarship with Hendrix College

By Jeff Ireland on June 7, 2022

Adversity is a word that gets thrown around a lot, particularly in the sports world. Whenever a team wins a championship, players and coaches almost always talk about all the "adversity" they faced throughout the course of the season. Sometimes it seems like legitimate adversity, other times it sounds more like cliched rhetoric. Well, the road that led to Class of 2022 … [Read more...] about Munford’s Auvic White overcomes adversity to sign football scholarship with Hendrix College

The Tennessee Football Coaches Association released its all-state high school football teams on Jan. 1 and seven Tipton County-area players received recognition. Covington High School had the most players in the county recognized with three: juniors Jamarion Dowell and A.C. Mason and senior Jalen Fayne. Dowell, who made the Class 3A team as a running back, rushed for 1,479 … [Read more...] about Seven Tipton County-area football players named TnFCA all-state

Henry County stops Munford in second round of Class 5A playoffs

By Jeff Ireland on November 15, 2021

[metaslider id=9824] Munford was trying to end some streaks in Friday night's Class 5A second round playoff game at home vs. Henry County, a team that had beaten Munford five times over the past 10 years in playoff action. The Cougars were also attempting to make the quarterfinals for the first time since 1997. Munford's offense played well and kept the Cougars in the game … [Read more...] about Henry County stops Munford in second round of Class 5A playoffs

Playoff preview: A look at what Covington and Munford will be facing tonight

By Jeff Ireland on November 12, 2021

Getting to the state quarterfinals is really hard for most programs. Munford, which has been a pretty successful program historically, hasn't been to the quarterfinals in 24 years. The Cougars can break that streak tonight with a win over Henry County. Covington is not like most programs. If the Chargers can get past Ripley tonight, they will make the quarterfinals for the … [Read more...] about Playoff preview: A look at what Covington and Munford will be facing tonight

Munford comes up with another late-game drive, advances to second round of playoffs

By Jeff Ireland on November 8, 2021

[metaslider id=9786] Portland's first drive during Friday night's first round Class 5A playoff game in Munford set the tone for the how the game was going to go. The Panthers didn't score on that drive, but it was 14 plays long and took 7:15 off the clock. That keep-away strategy worked for a while, but in the end running back Auvic White had another monster night and the … [Read more...] about Munford comes up with another late-game drive, advances to second round of playoffs

Walk-off field goal gives Munford second straight region title

By Jeff Ireland on November 1, 2021

[metaslider id=9730] There was lots of offensive star power on display Friday night at Crump Stadium in Memphis. Munford running back Auvic White was nearly unstoppable with 194 rushing yards and four touchdowns and Cougar quarterback Jordan Bell made several game-changing plays on his way to 172 all-purpose yards. Central running back Jamarious Brooks, the area's leading … [Read more...] about Walk-off field goal gives Munford second straight region title

Munford overwhelms Kingsbury to set up huge game Friday vs. Central

By The Leader on October 26, 2021

It could’ve been considered a “trap" or a “throw-away” game. The outcome of Munford hosting Kingsbury Friday night would have no effect on the Cougars’ postseason future. Win or lose they would face Central in the final week of the regular season to determine their seeding in the playoffs. So, you would forgive them if they didn’t take this game seriously. They didn’t see it … [Read more...] about Munford overwhelms Kingsbury to set up huge game Friday vs. Central

Munford destroys Southwind as showdown with Central looms

By The Leader on October 11, 2021

Munford remained perfect in region play on Friday as the Cougars put together what may have been their most complete game yet. Penalties were kept to a minimum while the offense more than 200 yards on the ground and the defense managed to get three interceptions on the way to a 44-14 rout of Southwind. Munford improves to 6-2 overall and 4-0 in region play, steamrolling … [Read more...] about Munford destroys Southwind as showdown with Central looms
