Playoff football gets going tonight for Covington, Munford and Tipton-Rosemark

It’s been an interesting journey to the postseason for Covington, Munford and Tipton-Rosemark Academy, all of which play their playoff openers tonight.

Munford, of course, finished 10-0 in the regular season for the first time in program history and won a third region title.

Covington lost two regular season games, but they were against two teams (Munford and Haywood) ranked in higher classifications and a combined 20-0. The Chargers absolutely dominated everybody else on the way to a region title.

Rosemark lost its first six games of the season and had a seventh cancelled before beating league foes Harding Academy and First Assembly Christian School to make the DII-A state playoffs.

Here’s quick look at what each team will be facing tonight:

What: Munford (10-0) vs. Clarksville Northeast (5-5)
Where: Munford
When: Friday at 7 p.m.
Players to watch: Munford – QB Jordan Bell, RB Braxton Sharp, RB Jace Hodgin, LB Tristan Bohannon, WR Isaiah Cobbs
What’s next: The winner plays Springfield or Memphis Central in round two.
What: Covington (8-2) vs. Hamilton (4-6)
Where: Covington
When: Friday at 7 p.m.
Players to watch: Covington – RB Jamarion Dowell, RB Skylan Smith, DB A.C. Mason-Young, QB Braden Gover
What’s next: The winner plays East or Millington in round two.
What: Rosemark (2-6) vs. Middle Tennessee Christian (8-2)
Where: MTCS
When: Friday at 7 p.m.
Players to watch: Rosemark – QB Sam Cannon, RB Nix Fullen, WR Ellis Fullen, DB Aiden Petrowski
What’s next: The winner plays Jackson Christian or Columbia Academy in round two.
