High football previews: Munford-Millington M & M Bowl highlights Week 2 action

Week 2 of the high school football season is upon us and it brings four interesting matchups locally: A longstanding rivalry game with the M & M Bowl (Munford vs. Millington), two interesting public school-private school contests (Brighton vs. Northpoint and TRA vs. Overton) and an old rivalry (Covington-North Side) renewed. Here’s a quick look at each game

What: Millington (0-1) vs. Munford (0-1)

Where: Millington

When: Friday night at 7

Players to watch: Munford – RB Auvic White, QB Jordan Bell, WR Icarius Hodgin, LB Ben Cerniglia

One thing to know: Munford beat Millington 29-3 last season and has won the M & M Bowl five straight times.

What: Covington (1-0) vs. Jackson North Side (0-1)

Where: Covington

When: Friday night at 7

Players to watch: Covington – RB Jalen Fayne, RB Jamarrion Dowell, LB A.C. Mason, LB Christian Barbee

One thing to know: Hardin County beat North Side 33-14 last week.

What: Brighton (1-0) vs. Northpoint Christian (0-1)

Where: Brighton

When: Friday at 7

Players to watch: Brighton – QB Nick Harvell, RB Braxton Sharp, DL Jacob Rodriquez, DB Kolby Jones

One thing to know: Brighton quarterback Nick Harvell did not play last week for undisclosed reasons but is expected to return Friday night.

What: Tipton-Rosemark (1-0) vs. Overton (0-1)

Where: Rosemark

When: Saturday at 7 p.m.

Players to watch: Rosemark – QB Payne Fullen, OL Gibson Phillips, WR Sam Cannon, RB Tyler Byrd

One thing to know: In a 47-0 win last week vs. Halls, Tyler Byrd scored five touchdowns for the Rebels.
