Suspect shoots themselves on Marshall Road following reported domestic dispute

By Echo Day on April 6, 2022

Police tape

Police in Munford are investigating an apparent suicide attempt that followed a domestic disturbance.

According to Munford Police Chief Randall Baskin, Atoka police were dispatched to a domestic disturbance. The alleged suspect was located at a residence on Marshall Road in Munford.

“When the officers approached they heard a gunshot,” Baskin said, noting someone familiar with the suspect confirmed the suspect had shot themselves.

The Leader is not releasing any identifying information about the individuals. There was a large police and first responder presence at the house where the shooting took place.

Baskin said the preliminary investigation shows it appears to be an attempted suicide. The alleged suspect still had a pulse and was airlifted to the Regional One Medical Center in Memphis where they later died.

Chief Baskin said the investigation is ongoing.

Call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (Lifeline) at 1-800-273-TALK (8255) or text the Crisis Text Line (text HELLO to 741741) if you or someone you know is in danger of self-harm. Both services are free and available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All calls are confidential.
