THP investigating fatal semi accident

The Tennessee Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident that took place Wednesday morning and knocked out power to southern Covington for several hours.

According to the preliminary incident report, the accident happened at approximately 8:30 a.m. just north of Baptist Hospital – Tipton.

The 2019 Freightliner Conventional driven by 41-year-old Katherine Campbell of Dalton, Ga., which was southbound on Highway 51, left the right side of the roadway and collided with the utility pole.

Campbell was fatally injured.

The hospital, Dyersburg State Community College – Jimmy Naifeh Campus, and other local businesses were without power until approximately 2 p.m. DSCC canceled classes for the day.

The THP is investigating the accident.
