One of the suspects in Friday morning’s shooting on Hwy. 51 North has turned himself in, Sheriff Shannon Beasley confirmed on Saturday.
Dalton Richard, 21, of Brighton, was charged with two counts of attempted murder. His girlfriend, Kassie Carpenter, 21, of Mason, is still at large.
The shooting took place near Jack Bennett Road. Witnesses said two cars were next to each other when the occupants of a silver Malibu began shooting at the occupants of a red Mustang.
Beasley said the shooting, which was caught on camera, was not random.
“First and foremost we want the public to know this was not a case of road rage,” he said. “This shooting was a targeted incident where the suspects and victims know one another and likely stems from a past relationship. No matter what the reason is, it is a stupid and reckless decision that put the victims and other innocent people at risk of death or serious injury.”
