After finding stolen truck, police also find guns likely used in drive-by shootings

Covington Police found guns they believe may have been used in drive by shootings after locating a stolen truck earlier this week.

According to chief Larry Lindsey, on Thursday, Jan. 16, Lauderdale County deputies spotted a Dodge truck recently stolen from a residence on Hwy. 179.

The driver led police on a pursuit which ended when the truck wrecked at Leigh’s Chapel and Flat Iron Road.

Three minors, two of whom were involved in a pursuit following the Monday, Jan. 13 drive-by shootings, were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property and possession of a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.

The driver had a .38-caliber pistol in his pocket. Two more handguns were located, one in the rear seat of the truck and the other in the ditch next to the vehicle.

These three weapons, and two others recovered after last week’s shootings, have been sent to the ATF crime lab for testing and analysis, Lindsey said.

The minors are being held at a detention center in Murfreesboro.
