Five shot during party at Covington’s Event Center

By Echo Day on September 24, 2023

Five people were shot during a party at The Event Center in Covington Saturday night.

Sheriff Shannon Beasley said Covington police and Tipton County deputies were dispatched to the popular club at approximately 11:15 p.m. after gunshots were reported.

“Upon arrival, deputies began administering first aid to a female gunshot victim who was found to be in extremely critical condition,” he said. “Deputies also learned of other gunshot victims that were transported to Baptist Tipton by private vehicle.

Detectives were summoned to the very chaotic and wide spread scene and learned that at least one victim was shot inside the club and other victims were shot outside.

Evidence on scene suggests there were multiple shooters in various areas in and around the Event Center.

Video filmed at the scene show people scattering from inside the venue when gunshots rang out. In another, a party-goer described the traumatic incident and said she and one of the victims tried to shield each other.

“At this time, we have a young female currently at The Med fighting for her life,” the sheriff said. “Our prayers are with her and her family and all the victims in this incident. This is absolutely uncalled for and behavior that’s not acceptable. It’s sad when people can’t get together and enjoy themselves without people acting with such sickening and violent behavior. Our office will work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice and we will not leave one stone unturned in the process. I urge anyone with information to please reach out to us.

If you have information regarding this senseless crime, please contact the Sheriff’s Office at (901) 475-3307, Central Dispatch at (901) 475-4300 or you may message us on FB at Sheriff Shannon Beasley.
