ATOKA – Several South Tipton fire departments battled a fire on a Canadian National Railway diesel engine Sunday night.

According to Atoka Fire Chief Henry Posey, firefighters were dispatched to the railroad tracks just south of Faulker Road at approximately 9 p.m.

“We fought it for three hours in a torrential downpour for the most part,” he said.

Atoka received mutual aid from Munford, Brighton and Three Star fire departments, Tipton County Fire Chief Jon Piercey and Gilt Edge Fire Chief Brandon Fletcher.

Atoka police officers, deputies and an ambulance from MedicOne were also on scene.

The cause of the fire is still undetermined, Posey said.
