At the end of Thursday’s meeting, the Tipton County School Board voted to give director Dr. John Combs a $5,000 bonus based on a recent performance evaluation.
This has been offered in the past, however Combs has never accepted it.
This year, Combs accepted it contingent upon the board’s approval of the creation of the Tipton County Schools scholarship fund, to which he will donate the bonus and provide $1,000 scholarships to seniors.

The board approved the measure.
“He’s getting it, but he’s giving it back,” said chairman Marty Burlison. “Thank you for a job well done. We’re glad to have you, Dr. Combs. We appreciate this.”
