Drummonds woman indicted in four-year-old’s 2021 death

A Drummonds woman has been charged with the 2021 death of a four-year-old in her care, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office announced Tuesday evening.

Tammy Wilkerson, 52, of Milton Road, was indicted by the Tipton County Grand Jury for murder and child abuse. The child was in Ms. Wilkerson’s care at the time when they were fatally injured.

The four-year-old, who has not been identified, reportedly sustained head injuries on Feb. 1, 2021. The child was unresponsive when deputies arrived. When detectives began investigating they found inconsistencies with Ms. Wilkerson’s account of the incident and the evidence at the scene.

“Since the investigation began, our detectives have worked tirelessly with General Mark Davidson and the District Attorney’s Office, Tipton County Medical Examiner’s Office, forensic pathologists in Memphis, and other medical professionals on this case,” said the sheriff. “I am proud of the work our detectives have put into this case and the assistance and guidance of these other professionals along the way.”

He said the case is “far from over for the family.”

“This is the first step in helping to bring some form of closure to the family. Tammy Wilkerson is where she needs to be and I am glad she will finally answer for what she has done.”

Davidson said the fight to protect children is “one we must fight together.”

Wilkerson is currently in the custody of the Tipton County Jail under a $250,000 bond.
