Deputies investigate highway shooting near Mason

By Echo Day on October 9, 2025

Deputies are investigating after a man sought treatment for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds early Monday and reported his vehicle was hit by gunfire near Mason, the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office said.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on Oct. 6, deputies responded to Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton for a report of a person seeking medical treatment for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The man told deputies he had left clubs in Mason and was driving toward Covington when an unknown car pulled up behind him and fired numerous rounds into his vehicle, striking him multiple times and causing him to lose control and wreck on Highway 59 South near Mason Malone Road.

The victim said an unknown individual picked him up from the roadside, took him to the hospital and dropped him off. Deputies later located the victim’s vehicle off the roadway on its side with disabling damage and multiple bullet holes, the sheriff’s office said.

The Criminal Investigations Division was notified and responded to continue the investigation.

“We urge anyone with information in regard to what may have led up to this shooting or may have seen the suspect vehicle to please call the Criminal Investigations Division at 901-475-3300, Central Dispatch after hours at 901-475-4300, email tips to sheriff@tiptonco.com, or Facebook Sheriff Shannon Beasley,” the agency said.
