Covington, Brighton, Munford, Rosemark football teams prepare for season, scrimmages

With the TSSAA dead period over this week, local high school football teams have been hitting the practice field hard in preparation the 2025 season, which begins next month.

All this week, Covington, Brighton, Munford and Tipton-Rosemark have been on the practice field going through various drills and preparing for the upcoming season.

Over the next few weeks, high school football fans will have an opportunity to see their favorite teams in scrimmages and 7-on-7s.

Covington will host Jackson South Side on Aug. 1 in a scrimmage and travel to Bartlett for another scrimmage on Aug. 8. Covington’s jamboree is Aug. 15 at Union  City and the regular season opens on Aug. 21 (a Thursday) at home vs. Lakeland Prep, which is coached by former CHS assistant Tyler White.

Munford will host two scrimmages next month, both at home: Aug. 1 vs. Dyer County and Aug. 8 vs. Melrose. The Cougars will play in the Dyersburg jamboree on on Aug. 15 against Crockett County before opening the season at home  Aug. 22 against Memphis Business Academy.

Brighton will host a 7-on-7 on Thursday against Halls and Lakeland Prep. The Cardinals will have a road scrimmage against FACS on Aug. 1 and will host Ripley in another scrimmage on Aug. 8.  They will take part in the Dyersburg jamboree Aug. 15 and open the regular season Aug. 22 at home vs. PURE Academy.

Rosemark will take part in a 7-on-7 on July 10 at St. Benedict. The Rebels will scrimmage Greenfield at home on Aug. 1. On Aug. 8 there will be a home against St. Benedict and Gleason before an Aug. 15 scrimmage at Kirk Academy. The Rebels’ regular season opens Aug. 22 at Donelson Christian.

Scrimmages and 7-on-7s are generally scheduled for 6 p.m., but heat conditions could change the times.
