Outlaw BBQ hosts inaugural cancer fundraiser

By Echo Day on October 18, 2023

Outlaw BBQ, owned by David and Sharon Laubenstein and Jon Burns, hosted their first annual Cancer Fundraiser this past weekend to raise money and awareness for Breast Cancer and Colon Cancer.

Several vendors including “Cakes and Cookies by Melissa” and “K&M Designs,” sold cookies, cakes, t-shirts, pens, tumblers, bracelets, books and more and gave part of their proceeds to the fund.

Jon also sold his house-made seasonings, including his mouth-watering honey glaze.

All the food donations and t-shirt sales on Sunday were also given to the fund. There was a silent auction that had a variety of items including yummy treats, holiday décor, signs for inside and outside your home, and custom-made gifts.

The kids ran from the bounce house to get their face painted and back to the bounce house, giggling the whole time.

The Tipton Jeepers lined the veteran-run restaurant’s parking lot, decked out in Halloween decorations.

An Army Humvee was opened up to look inside and explore.

The cornhole tournament was hot on the cool, drizzly Sunday afternoon and made for a healthy dose of competition.

While families were having fun and eating delicious hot dogs, bologna, chili, and nachos,

Sharon reminded the crowd that the reason for the gathering was to raise money for the Baptist Foundation.

In particular, the event was raising money to help two local families dealing with breast cancer.

One family had lost a mother due to breast cancer, and another family has a family member still fighting cancer.

Sharon wanted to put this fundraiser together because of her own personal experience. She was diagnosed with colon cancer in May of this year, and while her cancer was caught early and is being managed, she knows this is not the case with every situation.

Sharon is a nurse practitioner with a doctorate degree and is also a public wpeaker with her own business called “Sunflowers and Hope.” She has written several books and was autographing those as well as selling t-shirts associated with the books with Deuteronomy 31:6 printed on them.

This inaugural event was a success and Outlaw BBQ is looking forward to doing more events in the future.
