Sugaright earns TOSHA award for workplace safety

By Echo Day on July 8, 2021

Christina Carroll, Wendy Fisher (TOSHA), Douglas W Matthews, Anna Yarbro.

The Tennessee Occupational Safety and Health Administration recognized seven Tennessee employers with the prestigious Governor’s Award of Excellence for Workplace Safety and Health for their commitment to keeping employees safe while on the job.

Among them was Sugaright LLC of Covington, which produces sugar products. The company has qualified for the Governor’s Award by working more than 103,257 hours without a lost time or restricted duty workplace injury or illness.

TOSHA Assistant Commissioner Wendy Fisher recently presented the Governor’s Award of Excellence to company representatives during the closing ceremonies of the Tennessee Safety and Health Conference in Nashville.

“These companies have demonstrated a strong commitment to maintaining a safe and healthy workplace,” Fisher said during the presentation “The evaluation criteria for this award are challenging, and the companies have worked extremely hard to meet and exceed the standards the award requires.”

The Governor’s Award of Excellence recognizes Tennessee employers and employees who meet a required number of hours without workplace injuries serious enough to cause an employee to miss a day of work or restrict normal job activities. The number of hours required is based on the size of the company.

For more information on the Governor’s Safety Award of Excellence and other TOSHA award programs contact TOSHA’s Nashville office at (800) 325-9901.
