More than 20K people have early voted, shattering 2008 record

Early and absentee voters officially broke 2008’s record for turnout Tuesday, the Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett reported. By the close of business Wednesday, 20,238 people had already voted in Tipton County. The previous record was 17,554. New machines added to Atoka early voting site as turnout is on track to be record-breaking

Early voting totals could surpass the record-high 2008 turnout, administrator of elections Cindy Pinner has suggested. Twelve years ago, 17,554 people voted early and absentee.
