Things could not have gone much better this week for the Tipton-Rosemark Academy baseball and softball teams at St. George’s in Memphis.
The Lady Rebels routed Jackson Christian 6-1 on Tuesday to wrap up the DII-A-West region championship. One day later the TRA baseball team recovered from an afternoon loss to Northpoint to beat them that night in the rematch, 6-5, also win the region title.
Winning the title means both teams advance to next week’s best of three substate series, the winners of which advance to the state tournament in Murfreesboro. The baseball team will play Silverdale or Franklin Grace, starting next Wednesday. The Lady Rebels’ substate series, also starting Thursday, will be against MTCS or Lakeway Christian.
The Rebels (23-14) appeared to have Northpoint beaten in game two Wednesday, leading 6-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. Northpoint scored three times in the frame, though, before Noah Roland struck out the final batter of the game with the tying run on third. Roland struck out seven, walked five and allowed seven hits.
Zach Seward doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Rebels. Patrick Green singled, doubled and drove in one and Eli Ramsey doubled and drove in two runs.
The Lady Rebels (31-6), which went undefeated during regular season league play, still looked dominant in the region tournament.
Charli Rice, the tournament MVP, struck out 10 and allowed just two hits and four walks over seven innings in the title game to pick up the win. She also tripled in a run.
Kayla Clement, Ryleigh Bowers (three RBIs) and Myah Wright each had two hits for the Lady Rebels. Ali Naumann added a triple.
