Fans of Munford High School and/or golf will have a couple of opportunities over the next two weekends to have some fun and support their program.
First up is the Second Annual Johnnie Jones Classic Golf Tournament Presented by Covington Family Dental, Munford Pharmacy, Draingo and Landrum Heating and Air. It will be held this Saturday, April 23, at Forest Hill Golf Course in Drummonds.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. and a four-person shotgun format starts at 8 a.m. The cost is $75 per golfer. Lunch will be provided and there will be prizes for multiple flights, closest-to-pin, longest drive and putting.

Jones rushed for 4,547 yards and 47 touchdowns during his time as a running back at Munford and emerged as a Heisman Trophy candidate at the University of Tennessee, where he rushed for 2,852 yards, a school record at the time. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks and later played in the Canadian Football League.
“Of course it’s an opportunity to raise some money for the program, but the main thing is to honor Johnnie,” Kelley said. “Johnnie has done so many great things for us.”
The following Saturday, April 30, the Munford High School band will host a fundraising four-person golf scramble at Forest Hill in Drummonds. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost is $75 and you can register here.
Over the last decade alone, the Munford band has won a U.S. Bands National Championship (2011) and performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (2015) in New York City and the Tournament of Roses Parade (2019) in Pasadena, Calif.
In addition to the national title and the two cross-country trips, the band has received 26 straight superior ratings at the WTSBOA Marching Festival, four state titles, three Southern State titles and 20 grand championships at Bandmasters, Tennessee’s largest marching competition. The band also performed at the 1995 inauguration of Gov. Don Sundquist.
