April 20: There’s a COVID-19 outbreak at the prison in Mason
More than two dozen confirmed cases of COVID-19 have been reported at the West Tennessee Detention Facility, county executive Jeff Huffman said Monday morning. Close to 3 p.m. Saturday dozens of cars were waiting for their turn for COVID-19 testing at an event set up by the Tennessee Department of Health. This week the state began testing anyone who wants to be tested and the number of tests being conducted skyrocketed Friday. A week ago, Tipton had conducted 436 tests, which was considerably higher than its rural neighbors. This week, that increased from 562 on Monday to 587 on Tuesday, 595 on Wednesday and 599 Thursday.
