Brighton baseball hosted Tipton-Rosemark Academy on Monday and came away with a 7-4 win to open the season. Garett Glass doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs to lead the offense. Carson Hooper singled twice and drove in a run, Kaiden Ingram and Caiden Gaines each singled twice and Jaxon Tillman drove in a run for the Cardinals. Tillman struck out six and allowed … [Read more...] about Brighton, Munford, TRA pick up wins on opening day

Kevin Heath hired as Brighton High School baseball head coach

By Jeff Ireland on June 20, 2023

The Brighton High School baseball program reached new heights the last three seasons under head coach Ryan Wood. Brighton made the state tournament for the first time in 2021. Last year, the Cardinals won another district title, won the region for the first time and finished a win away from the Class 3A state title game. Wood stepped down from his position to become an … [Read more...] about Kevin Heath hired as Brighton High School baseball head coach

Brighton baseball makes state semifinals; Coach Ryan Wood steps down

By Jeff Ireland on May 31, 2023

The 2023 Brighton High School baseball season will definitely go down as the most successful (and probably most memorable) in the 27-year history of the program. Brighton finished one win away from advancing to the Class 3A state title game, the best result in program history. Shortly after the Cardinals lost to eventual state champion Greeneville 3-2 on May 25 at Smyrna High … [Read more...] about Brighton baseball makes state semifinals; Coach Ryan Wood steps down

Luke Perkins came up with a … [Read more...] about Brighton baseball, Munford softball on the verge of state tournament berths

Brighton teammates Ben Lavelle and Luke Perkins to join forces at Jackson State CC

By Jeff Ireland on May 9, 2023

There are many reasons the Brighton High School baseball team bounced back from a disappointing 2022 season to win this year's district championship. Many players have made significant contributions. Four of the big reasons have been seniors Andrew Davis, Bennett Stutts, Ben Lavelle and Luke Perkins. Davis signed with Northeast Mississippi Community College and Stutts with … [Read more...] about Brighton teammates Ben Lavelle and Luke Perkins to join forces at Jackson State CC

Utility player extraordinaire Bennett Stutts signs with Dyersburg State

By Jeff Ireland on February 14, 2023

Need a shortstop or third baseman? Brighton senior Bennett Stutts has you covered. How about an outfielder, pitcher or, even in a pinch, a catcher? No problem. That's a big reason why Stutts was attractive to college coaches and it all added up to him signing a baseball scholarship last Friday with Dyersburg State Community College, one of the top two-year baseball schools in … [Read more...] about Utility player extraordinaire Bennett Stutts signs with Dyersburg State

Brighton infielder Andrew Davis signs baseball scholarship with Northeast Mississippi CC

By Jeff Ireland on November 1, 2022

Brighton senior infielder Andrew Davis has been one of the best players on the team since his sophomore season when he nailed down the starting spot at third base. But last year, something clicked. "As a sophomore his hitting was pretty good and he had a good on-base percentage," Brighton head coach Ryan Wood said. "Last year, though, his (batting) average jumped above .400 … [Read more...] about Brighton infielder Andrew Davis signs baseball scholarship with Northeast Mississippi CC

Brighton, Munford baseball split two as district schedule winds down

By Jeff Ireland on April 20, 2022

Munford had a chance sew up the number one seed in next month's district tournament with a two-game sweep of Brighton. It didn't happen, though. Brighton won the first game Monday and Munford won game two on Tuesday. That means Munford (18-7 overall, 6-2 District 14-AAA) and Brighton (11-11, 4-2) would finish tied atop the regular season standings if Brighton beats Covington … [Read more...] about Brighton, Munford baseball split two as district schedule winds down
