Two Munford cross country runners set school records at local meet

Two Munford High School cross country records highlighted action at the 11th annual Cougar Classic meet held Saturday morning at Nancy Lane Park in Atoka.

Ryan Coley covered the 5K course in 16:43, which was good enough for first place and the fastest time ever recored by a Munford runner.

HANNAH CALLAHAN

Wade Walters (19:47, 11th), Randall Harrison (20:21, 16th) and Zach Fryar (20:28, 18th) each finished in the top 20 to help Munford finish second in the team competition. White Station finished first and Arlington was third. Aiden Barton, Dylan McCann and Gabriel Couillard also competed for Munford.

RYAN COLEY

John Richardson (20:56, 25th) and Joseph Carris (21:09, 29th) of Brighton each finished in the top 30 to help the Cardinals finish fifth among seven teams.

On the girls’ side, Munford’s Hannah Callahan finished second with a time of 19:56, which was also a Munford school record. Also for Munford, Emily Bey (22:20) finished fifth, Cara Bruce (22:45) was eighth and Ionna Dunlap (24:11) took 13th to help Munford finish second behind Hutchison. Nadia Solomon, Ashley Berrios and Alana Daniher each finished in the top 50.

Brighton’s Hailey Landers (23:56) finished 11th help Brighton finish fourth. Jade Luthrall-Davis (25:26) and Mariller Louna (25:36) of Brighton finished in the top 20.

In other cross country action:

Covington’s runners were at Milan for the Milan X Country Invitational on Sept. 9. In a field of 120 girls, Kinley Carver turned in a best time for the girls of 28:57. Anna Reese Cousar ran the course in 31:23.

On the boys’ side, SanDarius (18:39) Coleman took fourth place and medaled in a field of 150. Dalton Travis (19:10) secured a medal for his 12th place finish. Jaylen Denmark (20:57) placed 20th. Also running were Aden Deverell (23:36), Cameron Hall (24:50), Lincoln Roane (24:51), Conner Leland (25:04) and Griffin Clark (28:00).
