Munford and Covington fare well at Best of the West cross country meet

By The Leader on October 7, 2022

Munford’s and Covington’s cross country teams exceeded expectations at Tuesday’s Best of the West Meet in Troy, Tenn.

For the boys, Covington has been on a tear, taking second at last month’s Covington XC invitational with Munford finishing behind them. However, the script was flipped for this meet, as Munford placed second and Covington third.

Fast times were run by medalists Ryan Coley, Wade Walters and Randall Harrison III for Munford. San’Darius Coleman, the race winner, and Dalton Travis both medaled for Covington. Chester County High School ultimately won the meet on the male side, but Munford And Covington performed above expectations as they were predicted to finish fourth and sixth, respectively.

On the girls’ side, Munford High School’s Cara Bruce, Kaelyn Coker and Emily Bey all finished in the top 15 and medaled, paving the way for the Lady Cougars to place second overall for the second year in a row. Bruce placed first, improving on her time from last year’s Best of the West by more than three and a half minutes.

Covington’s Ma’liyah Gilliam and Kinlee Carver placed in the top 30, leading the Lady Chargers to a fifth-place finish. The Lady Cougars finished second, missing the top spot by only eight points.
