In Munford’s final game before postseason, Covington put up late hits to beat the Cougars in a comeback win.

Heading into the district semifinals, the Lady Cougars erased bad memories to tally up 17 hits in a 11-7 win that sent them to the championship.

Lexi Billings, who struck out nine batters, teamed up with her sister, Sadie, to slow down Covington’s hot offense.

“Sadie’s my girl,” Head Coach Raygan Huffman said about the sophomore who struggled against the Chargers last meeting, “The Billings duo is what we are calling them now.”

After exchanging leads through the first four innings, Vivian Millican doubled to give Joci Wilkins a chance to break the tie.

In the sixth, hits from Chloe Lowry, Natalee Faulkner, Jackie Friedrich and Mia Kate Griffin ran Munford’s score up to 11-4 heading into the final inning.

The Lady Chargers showed fight until the end with Keaton Wheeler, Gracen Ramsey and Kenzie Mathis adding insurance runs to cut the lead down to four.

Addie Hall finished with a couple of hits with two RBIs and a homer for Covington. Faulkner scattered three hits with three RBIs.

With back-to-back district championship appearances, Munford is looking to win a title before entering region play.

“The biggest thing for these girls is to turn the page,” Huffman expressed, “Whatever happened today, it could not happen tomorrow, so they just need to turn the page, recoup and get ready for tomorrow.”
