The Covington Lady Charger volleyball team has put itself in position to get to the Class AA state volleyball tournament for the second straight season.

After winning the district championship last week, Covington easily dispatched Raleigh-Egypt and Ripley Monday and Tuesday to claim the Region 8-AA title.

Next up? A sectional match Thursday at home against Lexington, the team Covington beat last season in a dramatic five-set sectional to get to the state tournament for the first time in 19 years. The match begins at 7 p.m.

This year’s state tournament will be hosted by Rockvale High School, which is located 10 miles from Murfreesboro. It begins next Tuesday.

E.J. McCalla, Charleigh Cole, Emma Bowie and Audrey Glass were named to the all-district team for Covington. Kaleigh Easley and Gracyn Ramsey earned all-tournament honors. Anna Gover was tabbed as the all-district and all-tournament most valuable player.
