One of the biggest offensive weapons for the Brighton High School football team the last three seasons will be showing off his talents in college next fall.

Solomon Davis, a speedy wideout, signed a football scholarship with Valparaiso Monday morning.

“He’s one of the best players I’ve coached in a long time,” said Brighton head coach Mike David. “He’s a hard worker and has just a great attitude. I know he’s going to be successful at the next level. He did a great job for us. He’s really humble and dedicated. Players like him don’t come around very often.”

Davis, who has run a 4.49 40-yard dash, said he sent highlight videos to the coaching staff at Valpo, which is about an hour south of Chicago in Indiana. The staff was impressed with his speed and he decided to commit to the school after a visit.

“Coach David, he really helped me throughout my career in high school,” Davis said when asked to talk about his journey to college. “It’s just about working hard, really. It’s been my dream all throughout my life, to be honest. It started in elementary school.”
