Brighton Middle continues dominance, claims conference championship with another win last night

By The Leader on October 20, 2021

Let’s take a break from high school football and talk about the Brighton Middle School football team, which advanced to the West Tennessee Athletic Conference Sectional championship after a 56-18 win against Lakeland Preparatory Middle School Tuesday night in Brighton.

“They played hard from the very beginning and just dominated the whole game,” said BMS head coach Larry Williams.

Domination is the right term to describe this team as they managed to keep a perfect record this season by defeating every team faced by 20 or more points.

Williams’ secret to their consistent winning was defense as they allowed no more than two touchdowns each game, with the only exclusion the second matchup against Lakeland.

“I know we scored a lot of points, but playing defense allowed us to do that,” said Williams.

Brighton will either play Havenview or Ridgeway in the championship game next week in Memphis.

Kailer Dortch scored four touchdowns for Brighton Middle Tuesday night agains Lakeland. Carnellis Douglass and Bricen Turnage each added two touchdowns for the Cardinals, who are 10-0 heading into next week’s title game.
