Brighton and Munford got their District 13-AAA schedules off to a great start Monday.

The Cardinals used a dominant pitching performance from Kaleb Baskin to defeat Dyer County, 4-1, at home.

Baskin struck out six, walked just one and allowed only three hits over seven innings in a complete-game win. He also doubled in the third inning to spark a four-run Brighton rally.

Ben Lavelle (2 for 3), Luke Perkins and Logan Rushing each drove in one in the third.

The Cardinals (9-6) travel to Newbern today for a rematch.

Down the road at Munford, Dalton Reed pitched a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 13 of 16 batters, as Munford beat Liberty 11-0 in game one of a doubleheader.

Hunter Reed and Trent Suggs (3 for 3) each hit two-run homers and Suggs added a triple to pace the offense. Tanner Davidson doubled in a pair of runs and Braden Sestina drove in two.

Tyler Smith put together another strong pitching performance for Munford in a game two, a 13-0 Munford win. He struck out 11 and allowed just four hits over five innings to pick up the win.

Trey Elliot was 2 for 2 with two RBIs. Smith, Dalton Reed, Jake Millican and Davidson each drove in a run.

The Cougars (8-7) return to action Thursday with a home game vs. Millington.
