Nic Buford, the head boys’ basketball coach at Munford High School, was arrested July 18 and charged with domestic assault and interference with an emergency call.
According to an affidavit of complaint, Buford, 37, got into an argument with his wife, Kellee Buford, at their home in Munford on July 16. A Munford police officer was dispatched to the Little Clinic inside of Atoka Kroger on July 17.
Kellee Buford told the officer Nic “hit her with an open hand in the face and in her eye.”
The officer, according to the affidavit, saw redness on the face and eyes of Kellee and observed scratches on both arms and the right side of her torso. Nic Buford was contacted by the officer and he told the officer “that he hit his wife and made a mistake.”
Also according to the affidavit, Nic grabbed his wife when she tried to use her phone. Kellee reportedly tried to hit her husband to get him to stop.
Nic Buford was hired as Munford’s boys’ coach in June of 2020 and has coached three seasons. He played varsity basketball at Munford in the early 2000s. He was the head girls’ coach and assistant boys’ coach at Millington Central High School in 2019 after spending four years coaching at Munford Middle, four at Brighton Middle and three as an assistant for the Brighton High boys.
When hired, Buford said, “I want to get everybody excited … The way I remember Munford basketball is a lot of packed gyms. Those 90s were amazing. I would love to see us get back to that level.”
