Betty Lou Rhodes Tyler
February 10, 1936 – February 10, 2020
Betty Lou Rhodes Tyler, 84, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 10, 2020, which was her 84th birthday.
She was predeceased by her husband, Franklin Tyler, who died in 2016. They had been married 66 years. She was born on Feb. 10, 1936, to Clarence Abernathy and Allie Mae Rhodes in Decatur County.
When she and Frank lived in Decatur County, she was a founding member of the Eastern Star of the Parsons Masonic Lodge #586. In the late 1980s, she was one of the “lunch ladies” at Rosemark High School, known for her yeast rolls. She was a crossword puzzle aficionado.
Upon moving to Burlison, she and Frank became members of the Garland United Methodist Church and she was a regular fixture in the fellowship room and kitchen until her health limited her activities in recent years.
She was one of the kindest, hardest-working people you would ever know. When you stepped in her house, you immediately felt like you belonged, like you were as close to family as anyone else in the room. She lived a long and happy life and was lucky enough to always be surrounded by family and friends.
She leaves four children: Kathy Tyler, Ronnie (Gail) Tyler, Phyllis (Larry) Collier and Tena (Greg) Dayton; five grandchildren: Lindsay Day, Nicholas (Kankana Shukla) Day, Matthew (Jennifer) Tyler, Brian Tyler and Alexa Dayton; and four greatgrandchildren: Michael Martin, Madison Martin, Houston Abbott and Chris Poff.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two brothers, Jerry Rhodes and Ted Rhodes, and her sister, Lois Bowman.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14, 2020, at Covington Funeral Home with interment in Magnolia Gardens Cemetery. Pastor David Horne of Garland UMC will officiate. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
