TCSO investigating woman’s death, searching for man who can ID her

By Echo Day on March 3, 2021

Police tape

Tipton County detectives are investigating a woman’s death at a local Dollar General and searching for a man they believe can identify her.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Tipton County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Dollar General Store, located at 7031 Hwy. 14 South, in regard to an unresponsive individual.

Upon arrival deputies located a white female lying in the parking lot and they immediately began rendering medical aid.  Medical personnel arrived shortly thereafter and pronounced her dead.

Sheriff’s office detectives were summoned to the scene and have begun their investigation. As detectives combed the area, it was learned that video surveillance captured an early model, grey Nissan Frontier, Tennessee tag #5A8-4L0 leaving the scene of where the female was found.

It is believed that this vehicle belongs to 40-year-old Joseph Huggins whose last known address was on Dunlap Orphanage Road in Brighton. Detectives would like to speak with Huggins in hopes he can help identify the female and the circumstances leading up to the event.
Tipton County Medical Examiner, Dr. Buffy Cook responded and has ordered an autopsy be performed.
“Please be mindful that this investigation is in the very early stages and our detectives are trying to gather as much information as possible” stated Sheriff J.T. “Pancho” Chumley.  “We are hoping that once we speak with Mr. Huggins we will have more information as to what took place.  I urge anyone with information to please contact the Sheriff’s Office so we may make proper notification to the victim’s family.”

If anyone has information pertaining to the case, please call the Criminal Investigations Division at 901-475-3300, Central Dispatch after hours at 901-475-4300, phone in tips at 901-475-3307, email tips to sheriff@tiptonco.com or Facebook Sheriff J.T.
