Covington Police are investigating a three separate drive-by shootings Monday, confirmed police chief Larry Lindsey.

The first incident took place on Garland Avenue at approximately 10:03 p.m.

An hour later there was a shooting in the 700 block of Peeler Road, then another one at Sunrise Apartments on Simonton Street, which intersects Peeler.

“There was (Tipton County Sheriff’s Office) deputy at Simonton and Peeler at the time and he got into a pursuit with the vehicle they believed to be responsible,” said Lindsey. “They bailed on Rose Street and ran, but we were able to get evidence out of the car.”

Three people officers believe were in the vehicle were located and, inside the house, two guns were found.

“One of those guns matches the caliber of gun used in the shootings,” he said, noting the individuals denied involvement.

The shootings are believed to be gang-related, the second two being retaliatory for the first one on Garland. It is the second shooting on Garland in the last several months.

No one was injured, Lindsey said, and only minor damage was done to the homes.

“The victim in the shooting at Sunrise didn’t even call the police, it was a neighbor who called.”

The investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Covington Police Department at 901-476-0243 or send anonymous tips through the Tip411 app.
