Covington Police are investigating an overnight shooting that killed a 22-year-old.

Officers were dispatched to Bluebird Cove at Loon Lane after gunshots were reported just after midnight Sunday. There they found a man had been shot to death while in his vehicle, which then left the road and hit a house.

The victim has been identified as Harkeem Kirby.

A press release from the police department indicated Kirby may have attended a party on Bluebird Lane before he was murdered. A witness told police she didn’t notice any fighting.

Police recovered a shell casing from the scene where Kirby was shot and noted there was a second crime scene down the street, where they forced their entrance into the home.

The suspect was possibly wearing a gray hoodie and pants with white shoes. Police said he was shooting an assault rifle.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 901-476-1261.

This is the second murder in Covington in the last two weeks. Tamya Ewing-Somerville was killed in a mass shooting at a party just outside the city limits on Sept. 23.
