Project tracker: In Covington, concrete phase of Hwy. 51 paving in progress

Concrete work at intersections between Winn and Hope has begun. Friday morning, the progress had reached as far as Shelton Park at Church Street and Hwy. 51.

COVINGTON – The concrete phase of the Hwy. 51 paving project began this week.

Tennessee Department of Transportation crews have been working overnight on curb ramp installation between Winn Avenue and Hope Street, which is the area of the highway stretching from St. Alphonsus Catholic Church to Walgreens.

The five intersections with traffic lights will be brought up to ADA standards and dilapidated sidewalks will be repaired.

To help prevent traffic congestion, the work is being conducted between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., TDOT reports state. Intermittent lane closures are expected while work is being conducted.

This phase of the project is expected to be completed by March 10.

The pavement phase is tentatively scheduled to start the first week of April and end on July 31.
