Full speed ahead for major residential development in Munford

By Jeff Ireland on December 11, 2019

If somebody who has not been down McLaughlin Drive in Munford the past 10 months took that drive now they would probably be shocked what has transpired.

Approximately 15 acres of long-vacant land on the southeast corner of McLaughlin and Doctors Drive is being transformed into two separate residential developments that will soon be home to about 77 families.

Trinity Homes, which is owned by Munford Development, began clearing the land back in February and construction began soon thereafter.

The Grove at Walker Meadows, which begins on McLaughlin and wraps around Doctors Drive, will include 24 duplex townhouses, each of which are approximately 3,500 square feet and are for residents 55 and older.

Ten townhomes began going up this year. Two are finished and four more are nearing completion. Construction on the other four will begin in 2020.

Just south of that there will be 29 patio homes that are being built by D and D Custom Homes and Creative Development Inc. Several of those homes, which are for people of all ages, are currently under construction.

A ribbon cutting ceremony and open house event will be held Thursday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. for the Grove at Walker Meadows. Keith Kirkpatrick of Mid-South Realty Group in Dyersburg is handling sales and marketing for the Grove townhomes.

Wayne Bouler, president of Trinity Homes Retirement Homes LLC, is no stranger to development in South Tipton County. Charles Walker, who died in 2014 and was the founder of Tipton County Land Company, was Bouler’s father-in-law.

Bouler worked with Walker, who was known as the Land Man, for many years as residential and commercial projects came to fruition in Atoka in the 1990s and 2000s. The company was heavily involved in developments like Blaydes Estates and other projects.

When Walker died Bouler took over that company and formed various subsidiaries over the years.

Over the past decade the company began projects in Munford, including Patriot Square, which houses Patriot Bank. Now the companies’ footprint is becoming larger in Munford.

Another residential development on the west side of Doctors Drive is also in the works.

The Grove at Walker Meadows, located on McLaughlin Drive in Munford, is nearing completion. There will be an open house and ribbon cutting Thursday.

“The city of Munford, their aldermen, mayor and their planning commission have been very easy to work with,” Bouler said. “They have really worked with us to make these projects nice. We’ve come together and compromised on a lot of things. They’ve really been pro-development. I can’t say enough good things about their city government.”

The Grove and the patio homes will each have their own homeowner’s associations. There will about 15 feet between the patio homes, which will be various sizes.
