“We’re looking forward to another of our award-winning pet calendar contests,” said Leader publisher Scott Whaley. “It’s a great way to help raise money for local animal rescues.”

Voting and entry is now officially open.

The contest is simple: Owners submit photos of their pets and voters determine who’ll win. The 12 pets with the most votes will be featured in the 2022 calendar.

Though dogs are the most often-submitted, the contest isn’t just limited to them. Cats, dogs, chickens, goats, hedgehogs, hamsters, goldfish, lizards, birds, snakes and other pets are welcomed to be entered into the competition. Each photo entry costs $10.

The contest officially opened Thursday, Nov. 11 and voting will close on Thursday, Dec. 2. Each vote is $1.

“A portion of the proceeds from the contest will be split between Tipton County Paws & Claws, Friends of the Tipton County Animal Shelter and Covington Animal Rescue Effort,” Whaley said. “We’re so excited to be able to partner with these organizations again and give back during what we know has to have been a tough year for them.”

Winners will be announced in the Dec. 9 print edition of The Leader. In addition to being the cover model, the grand prize winner will also receive a gift card for pet supplies and a basket of all-natural treats from Covington-based Bo’s Barkery. Calendars featuring the winners can be pre-ordered during the three-week voting period. They will be available for pick-up at the end of December.

The Leader will make the donations to the rescue groups and a gift presentations to the winner in January.
