Covington’s Aquatic Center is getting an upgrade – here’s what’s happening

By Echo Day on January 16, 2025

Covington’s Aquatic Center is poised for a series of upgrades, particularly focusing on the installation of new pool heaters.

During the recent General Welfare/Public Relations Committee meeting held on Jan. 14, Parks and Recreation Director Molly Glass shared essential updates about the project, which has been eagerly anticipated by both staff and patrons of the aquatic center.

The installation of pool heaters is expected to address the issue of extreme fog and condensation that currently affects the facility, especially during colder months.

“The fogginess on the left is before the sun fully comes up. It’s like a water cycle in there.”

The new heaters will ensure that the center maintains a comfortable and clear environment all year round, making it more inviting and accessible to the community.

Glass announced during the meeting that all parts necessary for the heater installation have now arrived.

“All of the parts are in,” she said, explaining that the next steps involve securing the necessary equipment to begin the installation process. “[The contractor] is going to begin work on securing two lifts that it will take for him to get all the stuff installed.”

The installation process will require some temporary closures of the pool area to ensure safety, as the contractor will need to work close to the water. The pool is scheduled to be closed from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.

Operations will continue during nights and weekends when the contractor is not present.

The upgrades will not affect the morning swim, parties, or the afternoon operations.

This project has been a priority for the committee, recognizing the importance of a well-maintained aquatic facility for the health and recreation of the community.

The new heaters are anticipated to create a more enjoyable atmosphere, reflective of the clear conditions seen in the warmer months, as illustrated by the photos shared by Director Glass.

“Having heaters should make the room look like what’s on the right year-round,” she explained, referencing the clearer conditions depicted in the imagery.
