NORFOLK, Va. – Seaman Tristen Blair, a USS Monterey sailor from Brighton, hugs his mother Karla Blair before the USS Monterey (CG 61) departs Naval Station Norfolk with the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group Wednesday.

The ships are deploying in support of maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the U.S. 5th and 6th Fleet areas of operation as well as the Great Green Fleet initiative.

While deployed, CSG ships and aircraft will employ operational procedures and energy conservation measures in order to enhance operational capabilities, enabling strike group units to go farther, stay longer and deliver more firepower without having to refuel.
